Hi, I want to be able to play specific guitar songs, but after
attempting lessons, I have absolutely no interest in learning to read
music or taking more lessons. I am looking for a video that walks
someone through the each step of a song. Show and tell in a sense. I
am NOT looking for BOOKS with cheats or diagrams/pictures of cords,
but actual videos that someone can watch step by step, and learn to
play the song by just copying the steps etc of the most popular songs.
I have found a few videos that do this, but only of older songs.
Online sites ok as well.

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff, I have been playing with a guitar for longer that I care to say.
I would encourage you to start learning chords. My son and I were
talking about your exact problem just the other day. I told him that I
met a young girl that was taking lessons and the teacher was not
teaching her chords. I am not a musician, but my son is and he agreed
with me that you should really learn chords first. If you learn a few
chords, then you can play a song. Now you have a reason to play.
Chords toughen your finger tips and teach you where and how to place
your fingers. When you progress on to learning barre chords you are on
the way to greater things. However, what do I know. You are correct
about one thing. Sometimes the only way to learn exactly what an
artist is doing is to watch their fingers.

Have you tried TAB yet? It is sooo easy. It takes like one minute to
understand it, and then BAM! You can play any song super fast. Here's
a website with posted guitar tabs. Some of them are easy, some are
sloppy, some do only give chords, and some are even incorrect, but
search for the song you want, then click on the tabbed version of the
song.
http://www.guitartabs.cc/home.php
The way tab works is as close to watching a video as you can get. It
shows six lines, representing the strings on the guitar. The top
string is the highest sounding string on the guitar, so that looking
at it on paper is like looking down at your fingerboard on the guitar.
Then it puts a number on the string to show at what fret you should
place your finger or fingers. Going from left to right represents
time. So it shows exact finger placement at each moment in time. Hope
that helps!!

Looking for something like guitarvision.com but with a different group
of songs taught, preferably in video form.

Have any ideas on what songs you want to play? Maybe someone will be
willing to video tape how it is played (step by step) and send it to
you.

I would recommend finding concert music videos by the artist and
watching those. Many DVDs, ie. Pearl Jam's latest video, include
specific camera shots that follow the guitarist around.
At the same time, I would try to learn tab while listening to the
songs, because tab doesn't allow you to learn the rhythm of the song.
