On Windows I like the monospaced font Sheldon Narrow, available from
http://www.tobias-jung.de/seekingprofont/ (it's the first link under
the Download Files heading -- note that it's *not* the same as the
ProFont font, which is also available from that page.) But for the
life of me I can't get that font to work in either Konsole or
gnome-terminal. I'm using Debian sarge.

I converted it from a .fon file to BDF, and from there to PCF. It
didn't work to just copy the font to my ~/.fonts directory, so I
installed it in /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc and ran mkfontdir. That made
it available for use in xterm, but not Konsole. Then I ran dfontmgr
and registered the file with a bunch of different combinations of
hints, none of which helped.

I'd like to know specifically what I need to do to make that
particular font available as one of Konsole's supported fonts.

Hello Koreth,

According to:
  http://www.cpdrummond.uklinux.net/kfontinst/docs/font-installer.html
it appears that you can't use a BDF nor PCF font outside of X
applications. This information is a little dated so I'll dig a little
more and try a sample font when I have access to a Linux machine
tomorrow.

You may need to get the font in another format to enable its use in Konsole.
It may also be possible to get another similar looking font. Let me
know if one of those alternatives may be acceptable.

I've figured out how to make the font work. I installed the "xmbdfed"
font editor and imported the .fon file. I changed the spacing setting
from P (proportional) to C (charcell) and saved it as a .bdf in my
~/.fonts directory, then ran "fc-cache". Now Konsole sees it.
