Question ID: 383723
What types of paint did Picasso typically apply to canvas during 1931/32?

This question is not asking about colors. I do not want to know what
colors of paint were on his palette; I DO want to know what his oil
paints were make of. What color of white Picasso used may be a
helpful way to come to the types of paint he used, but I am asking
about the characteristics and composition of the oil paint he applied
to canvas during this specific time when he lived in Boisgeloup, in
the house he bought in 1930 outside of Paris as a hideaway, and much
of his work was preoccupied with his mistress, Marie-Thérèse,
including, most notably, his famous Le rêve which he painted one
Sunday afternoon, January 24, 1932. That painting, in particular, is
my focus, but the oil paints he used during this time is relevant.
All research references are essential.

In order to have a comprehensive analysis of "Le rêve", you have to
analyse the pigments and the binding agents from two samples or more.

For example, that analysis was done for "Woman in Blue with a Beret" (1903).
The results are both available in french and english.
Abstract:
" The preparatory white layer is constituted of white lead, zinc lead
containing a load of barium sulphate. (...)The thick preparatory layer
of a white lead base is one of the characteristics of Picasso?s
technique during the blue period in Barcelona."

If the pigments of this painting (or of a painting from the same
period) have been analysed, the answer could be available by asking to
the following institutions (in France):

Madame Dominique Dupuis-Labbé
Conservateur au Musée National Picasso
Hôtel Salé
5, rue de Thorigny
75003 Paris
France

or

(be very motivated in your request, they don't give answer to private companies)
