Hi again johnterryjr,
I would use a job hunter agency only as a back-up plan in the event I
was unable to find a suitable employee on my own, but I think the
first step would be to get in touch with universities and colleges in
India because schools usually maintain lists and bulletin boards for
students/alumni looking for work. Schools are keen to help their
graduates find work and I'm sure you could leave some business cards
along with a job description with them - start with the schools
nearest to you and work your way out from there. Also, placing ads in
a few newspapers should shake loose some good prospects.

Hi again johnterryjr,
I have found an interesting link for you. In your original question,
you asked about "drug store license". The wording of your enquiry is
more vital than I had realized when I answered your questions and I'm
sorry to say, I hadn't realized that there is an enormous difference
between "drug store" and "pharmacy". If indeed you are interested in a
"drug store" (non-prescription drugs only), than there is no need for
a "Qualified Competent Person"!
Premises for the Sale of Drugs:
"There are three types of licensed premises and they display on the
board the appropriate description viz.
(a) pharmacy/pharmacist/dispensing chemist/pharmaceutical chemist
(b) chemists and druggists
(c) drug store
A) Pharmacy/Pharmacist/Dispensing Chemist/Pharmaceutical Chemist:
In such premised:
1. Pharmacy is maintained for compounding against prescriptions.
2. Supervision of a qualified person is obligatory.
3. All types of drugs (OTC as well as prescription drugs) are supplied.
B) Chemists and Druggists : In such premises:
1. Pharmacy is not maintained, so compounding is not permitted
2. Supervision of a qualified person is obligatory
3. All types of drugs (OTC as well as prescription drugs) are supplied."
C) Drug Stores:
"In such premises only non-prescription drugs (OTC drugs) are
available. Services of qualified person are not obligatory. Supply of
prescription drugs and compounding is not permitted."

If you are interested in opening up a drug store, there is no need for
me to try to answer your following questions -
"if you can find as much contact info as possible for the universities
etc you mention below..."
"re-confirm both entry salary plus average salary for the people
mentioned in your answer"
"please clarify how you found those 2 people on AOL..."
Will look forward to hearing from you,

Great answer clarification :-) - thanks for your thoroughness.
What is the difference between:
(a) pharmacy/pharmacist/dispensing chemist/pharmaceutical chemist
(b) chemists and druggists
...and what kind of personnel is obligatory to work in (b)??
Basically, all there is needed is a permit/license to be able to sell
prescription medicine so I am not sure if (b) is enough. If so, what
kind of persons is "qualified" to work there? is it enough with a
pharmacist?
I will still pay the the bonuses below if you can find the info requested:
1) if you can find as much contact info as
possible for the universities etc you mention below (website, email

Following are some interesting links regarding retail pharmacists and
chemists - I think they may help you understand how the retail drug
trade in India works. The first link also has a reference to salaries.
"On paper, every shop has a pharmacist. ?But when we inspect the shops
we find that they are not there,?? says Mr Deshmukh. The government
contends that medical shops use pharmacists only to sign their bills,
but the pharmacists are never available to dispense medicines.
The state has around 32,000 medical shops and 60,000 registered
pharmacists. Medical shop owners don?t employ full-time pharmacists
because of the high costs? pharmacists expect a monthly salary of Rs
10,000.
?Most pharmacists are employed on a token basis. Each is attached to
five or six chemists and gets Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 from each to sign
whatever they are asked to,?? says a pharmacist."
"?Why does the FDA issue licence to chemists who do not have
pharmacists on their staff ? This clearly indicates corruption in the
FDA.?"
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/11506826.cms
"The retail pharmacist shall be relevant to the society `only'' if he
can make a difference to the patient - by providing him information
about drug usage to achieve better outcome than the patient obtains by
uninformed usage of drugs."
http://www.pharmabiz.com/article/detnews.asp?articleid=11385§ionid=46
"In earlier days the chemists' shops maintained facilities for
dispensing. Compounding was the main professional task. There were a
very few of factory made preparations, which the chemists directly
handed over to the consumers. These were mostly patent and proprietary
medicines."
"By the mid of the twentieth century the situation started changing.
The extemporaneous compounding of drugs on doctors' prescriptions was
gradually reduced and replaced by dispensing of prepared and packed
medicines manufactured in the pharmaceutical industry."
"In a different way the introduction of new highly potent medicines
added to the responsibilities of the man behind the counter. He was
now required to be adequately knowledgeable with the pharmacological
actions, drug interactions, storage conditions, and shelf-life of the
drugs. Now pharmacist is required to be adept patient counsellor and
be a source for drug information. The pharmacist also has an important
role as a health educator. In India his involvement in the family
planning programmes is all the more important. Pharmacy is a greatly
under utilized public resource; the pharmacists are more than
distributors of medicines."
http://www.ijpe.org/July2003/Article01Page01.html
"...State Drugs Controller categorically instructed that they would be
responsible for ensuring that the outlets of all chemists and
druggists had qualified pharmacists and the qualified pharmacists
should wear a white apron with his or her name displayed on it.
The letter further instructed that they would give one week?s time to
all chemists/druggists within their jurisdiction to comply with the
instructions and thereafter, within a fortnight, they should submit a
physical verification certificate that each outlet within their
jurisdiction had complied with the provisions."
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2003/20030802/punjab1.htm
So I think that in India, the Chemists and Druggists (pharmaceutical
scientists) are the people dispensing drugs and the pharmacists
(health care professionals) mostly take other better paying jobs. To
get a license in any kind of retail drug store which dispenses
prescription drugs, the shop must be supervised by a pharmacist. The
best thing you could do would be to contact the FDCA, I'm sure they
can give you all the information you'll need regarding license
requirements.
Contact
http://www.gujhealth.gov.in/FDCA/GeneralInformation/OfficeAddressOfFDCA.htm
In regards to AOL, I'm not an AOL member either. I just happened to
come across that resume posting searching on Google so I included it
in my answer.
In regards to contact info of the universities, I have tried but it
would seem that many universities and colleges in India have not yet
made websites. Perhaps if you post another question, someone else will
be able to find more info for you.
I hope I've been able to help you and that you don't have to jump
through too many hoops to get your license.
Good luck!

post that as another question so other researchers can have a look at
it. hummer
