I recently installed Windows XP to replace Windows 98. At the time of installation, the system told me to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus 2004 and Norton Internet Security 2004. I had bought both of these programs as downloads from the Symantec site. Despite following the directions to the "T", I cannot successfully re-install Internet Security. I continue to receive an error message telling me that it cannot find the Integrator. I tried doing a clean boot, as directed on the Symantec online technical assistance site. I tried removing all Symantec programs from my hard drive (the two above plus WinFax Pro). I tried a new dowload of both Norton programs from the Symantec site. I am concerned about not having this program installed because of the DSL line I use on my business computer. I cannot reach Symantec by phone, even on the pay line. How do I get Internet Security properly installed? Thank you, Jeff Williams |

Hi virginiaboy-ga, I've located some documents and strategies that should fix your problem. The first link is most likely the link you found on the Symantec support site (Error: "Unable to start the Integrator. Please reboot and try again. . . (1007,157)" when using the desktop icon to open the product): http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2003081114425513?Open&src=ap_hot&docid=2003030415184807&nsf=nsw.nsf&view=docid/2003030415184807?opendocument&src=ap_hot&prod=norton%20systemworks&ver=2004%20professional%20for%20windows%202000/me/98/xp&stg=2&base=www.symantec.com/region/reg_ap/techsupp/nsys&dtype=&prod=Norton%20SystemWorks&ver=2004%20Professional%20for%20Windows%202000/Me/9 8/XP&osv=&osv_lvl= The Second document gives a few more strategies for dealing with the problem... (After installing Norton SystemWorks 2004, the program does not start, or appears briefly and then disappears without displaying an error message): http://service1.symantec.com/support/nsw.nsf/docid/2003030415184807?OpenDocument&src=ap_hot&prod=Norton%20SystemWorks&ver=2004%20Professional%20for%20Windows%202000/Me/98/XP&stg=2&base=www.symantec.com/region/reg_ap/techsupp/nsys/&next=nsw_2004_pe_search_solve.html&sone=nsw_2004_pe_tasks.html&tpre=ap Basically, what the second documents says is that the failure to install may be caused by a virus (or some other infection). That may actually be the case here. There is a link to an online scanner that should be able to find out if you do in fact have an infection on your system. The link to the online scanner is: http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym Also, some more information that may help fix the problem... Search your hard drive for "Symantec", "Norton", and "LiveUpdate" - delete them and the entire directory they are in. Click Start, then Run... and type "regedit" and click 'run'. Once in the program, search for those same 3 items listed above and delete them. However, be VERY CAREFUL!! Incorrectly editing your system registry can permanently destroy your install of XP necessitating a complete reformat and reinstall of Windows XP! Once you completed the above steps, go ahead and re-install the firewall and antivirus. It should work after manually deleting the registry entries. Also, for your knowledge, there are free versions of Antivirus and Firewall. My favorites are: Antivirus: AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ Firewall: ZoneAlarm - http://www.zonealarm.com Hope this helps. If you require clarification on this answer, please ask prior to rating and closing the question. Thanks! Legolas-ga Search terms: "Unable to start the Integrator. Please reboot and try again" |
