I am looking for a solution (probably VBA) to download historical
quotes from Yahoo. Basically looking for line 1 of the spreadsheet to
hold the symbols and then historical quotes listed downwards in
columns (first column being the date)

Have you tried just coping the data and then using Paste Special in
Excel to place it in the cells you want?

just4fun-ga...thanks for the suggestion....as i am looking at
downloading this data and keep it going for around 50 stocks, copying
and pasting will be very cumbersome. I was hoping for a small program
within excel that can do this for me. At the moment i have to do each
symbol separately and it is rather time consuming.

I have a perl program that can do the similar jobs.
