Question ID: 384484
I loaded your product, I thought in a windows folder. Now I have lost
use of my system as your product has taken over my systrem and will
not allow me to use the other products I have loaded. How do I
UNINSTALL your product so I may use my system. I had hoped to teach
myself Linux, but have instead lost my system. Please send uninstall
directions quickly. The product is Mandrake Linux 8.1 any help will
be gratefully accepted. The Mandrake website is a joke, I keep getting
timeout errors on their servers.

Hello Huffer1,

Depending on how you installed Mandrake one of the following occurred:
 1. you wiped out your entire Windows system and must reinstall from
your Windows CDs. This is suggested by forge and pinkfreud. You may be
able to get some of your stuff back from a data recovery service.
 2. you installed Mandrake Linux in a folder (or partition) and have a
choice of running Windows or Linux.

If the second case, can you try this...
 [1] Shutdown the Linux system.
[2] Reboot the system and record what is displayed immediately after
the BIOS screen goes away.

One example is you get a prompt like:
  lilo:
and after a few seconds it automatically restarts Linux unless you
type in something to that prompt. Your Mandrake instructions should
have told you what to type here.

Another example, you may get a menu displaying something like...
  Mandrake Linux 8.1
  Microsoft Windows
and other options. It is a little more obvious to do at this case, use
the up/ down arrows to select Linux or Windows and then Enter to
proceed.

In either case - can you post a question clarification indicating what
you see after the BIOS is done so I (or another researcher) can help
you more fully.

The Mandrake Operating System isn't a program. It's also not a product
that was created by Google, although I'm sure some folks here might be
able to help you with your issue. Since it's an Operating System
though there isn't just going to be an uninstall.

As mentioned by forge-ga, Mandrake Linux is an operating system. It
doesn't run under Windows (or whatever your previous OS was), as a
program would; it replaces Windows as the control system for your
computer. The reason it "took over" your system is because that's what
operating systems do.
