It is ink and dye on fabric, backed by wood, and is said to be from Singapore. The couple is wrapped in a large serpent, perhaps laying in a coffin, while various deities look on. I am interested in the theme of this scene. Hindu god and goddess? A funeral? Please describe what is happening, as well as identifying the main couple and the onlookers. Also, can the painting "style" be identified? I can post more pictures if needed. http://www.xecu.net/dereu/ga.jpg http://www.xecu.net/dereu/ga2.jpg |

hi...in looking at the masks...headpieces on the characters and the winged shape of the shoulder pieces i would have to guess that it is thai art. the style of the dragon or serpent is also very thai styled. i am not sure what is happening, but if it is thai then if it has religious significance it would be buddhist. go and look at pictures of thai art and you will see the winged style of the masks and winged stule of both the headpieces and the shoulder pieces. hope this helps |
