I am very accomplished at using synthesizers to create music
arrangements. Where can I learn what companies currently seek music
for movies that are or will soon be in production? Is there an
industry-standard procedure for the appropriate way to contact said
companies?

Get ahold of the Film & TV trade publication, The Hollywood Reporter's
"Film & TV Music" issue -- it comes out at least once a year -- maybe
twice. Full of ads and articles and charts of who writes for what,
who the composer's agents are, etc. etc. The Hollywood Reporter is
based in LA. . . you can probably get ordering info or at least
contact info on their website. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com

Also -- a lot of movie and TV music is not original music. Producers
license "needle drops," stock music from assorted music libraries. A
lot of them are listed in that same issue, by the way. There is a
big business in musicians providing the material for those libraries
and perhaps you could break in by providing stock music to some of
these libraries. Not sure how that works, though.
You might look on their websites, and see what submission guidelines
are -- and you can also listen to the music itself. To name a few:
KILLER TRACKS or FIRST COM (Both owned by BMG) or one that's almost
ALL synthesizery, VIDEO HELPER.

Hey, anonoboy --
Wonder of wonders. The Summer Film & TV Music issue of the Hollywood
Reporter is on newsstands NOW. It just came out yesterday! August
17-23 issue. . you want what's called the Weekly International
Edition. Turns out they publish these editions 4 times a year. So
there's one now. And the next one will be a special issue on November
16th.
