Studies indicate that if a child has a peanut allergy, the chance that
a sibling will also be allergic to peanuts is around 7%.
"Q: I have a child with peanut allergy. What are the chances of a
younger sibling developing it?
A: Because there is allergy in your family, there is a high chance
that the younger sibling will also be prone to allergies. But these
will not necessarily be severe. There is only a seven per cent risk of
this second child developing peanut allergy, compared with a 1-2 per
cent risk in a child from a non-allergic family."

"Skin prick testing of 50 children with reported peanut allergy and
their families: 7 probands (14%) had a negative result for peanut.
Peanut allergy was refuted by food challenge in all those tested
(5/7). No parent and 13% (5/39) of siblings had a positive result on
skin prick testing for peanut. Two of these siblings had negative
challenge with peanuts. The prevalence of peanut allergy in siblings
is therefore 3/39 (7%)."

"In a study on the genetics of peanut allergy, we found that there is
a 7% risk for peanut allergy in a sibling of a peanut allergic child."

"Genetics play a significant role in peanut allergy say a group of
researchers in the July 2000 Journal of Allergy and Clinical
Immunology... Fifty-eight pairs of twins (14 identical and 44
fraternal) were recruited for this study with at least one member of
each pair having a convincing history of peanut allergy. Seventy
individuals had a history of peanut allergy.
In 64 percent of the identical twin pairs, both twins were allergic to
peanuts, whereas in the fraternal twin pairs, both twins had peanut
allergy 7 percent of the time."

"With peanuts, studies show that a child has a 1-2% chance of having
peanut allergy if the parent is allergic and a 6-10% chance if a
sibling has it."
