I am interested in finding out how I could
assemble/locate/procure/build/buy a residential e-mail address list in
a specific area code. I purchased an email list some months ago and a
minimum of 60% were not valid. I have seen email ads for CD's with
30 million addresses. But I'm only interested in one area code 515. I
have tried mining but was hoping for an easier way.
Thank you

Greetings! After searching the 515 area code and seeing it was Des
Moines, Iowa, I got a hunch that will pay off with numerous email
addresses in Des Moines though it will require you to build your own
list.

I am a member of various Yahoo Groups so I went to the Yahoo main page
and clicked on the Groups links. On the Groups search page, I entered
"des moines iowa" and the search returned 71 groups which contain the
words "des moines iowa". To give you an idea of the various topics I
found:

As you can see from the diversity of the groups, there are many
different groups for Des Moines based activities. What you would do
would be to create an account of your own for Yahoo Groups and then
visit each and every one of these groups. Members are required to
have an email to belong (most get their messages by email as opposed
to visiting the site page each time) and emails are public record to
the members of each group. As opposed to just collecting the email
addresses from the group database, you may politely query the members
through a general post asking if you may collect their emails from the
public group record - that way you respect their privacy and the
information they have posted (you will also probably make many new
friends!) As you can see by the above samples, the Des Moines groups
samples I listed above have over 1,500 members total. A few might be
living away from Des Moines and keeping up with activities through the
group, but the majority will be 515 residents.

Some of the groups have few members, some have many - but you will be
able to collect a goodly number of email addresses in total. Also,
there are similar type groups/clubs at MSN.com and other sites where
you might use the same tactic.

Another way to collect Des Moines emails would be to set up your own
web page for Des Moines and offer a newsletter for various activities
or services. In your key words for the site, you would use "Des
Moines" to capture searchers and to rank the page higher. You would
have a sign-up area where name, address and email would be requested.
People finding your site might sign up for your free newsletter, but
make sure your keywords and explanations ask for only residents of Des
Moines.

Depending on the product, service or information you wish to provide
in Des Moines, you may also visit free dating clubs on the Internet
(or join the ones that require a small fee) and look for people in Des
Moines that way. The personal ads almost always contain an email.
Also check colleges in the area for student groups at the college
sites which will have emails with them. Again, always respect the
privacy issue and laws by asking first instead of just copying an
email database.

I hope these ideas will assist you in your quest. Should you need
clarification, please ask.

Hi Headlines,

I have not yet become a google researcher :( but I can comment.
Various phone and cable companies are now providing DSL & other high
speed internet access for certain areas. You may want to find the
providers in 515 ( 515 by the way, is for the following areas: Des
Moines, West Des Moines, Ames, Urbandale, Fort Dodge, Ankeny, Boone,
Indianola, Webster City, and Clive - Iowa), and start with them,
perhaps they will sell you these lists.

Here is a link of Iowa ISP's (Internet Service Providers), broken
down by, luckily for you, area code! :)

Hopefully this is all of the information you need, let me know if I
can help you further, or if I've helped you :)
