Rare? If it is, then I'll have to get the one on the desk posted on
e-Bay. But it's not. It?s a product of a well-known Seattle toy
designer. Here's a picture and description of the 7 ½" bobblehead:
Archie McPhee
"Jesus Nodder," $7.50
http://www.mcphee.com/amusements/current/10972.html
The Jesus nodder was brought out in 2002 by Accoutrements, the parent
company of Archie McPhee, which designs and distributes a wide variety
of toys and novelties. Archie's is a store in the Ballard district of
Seattle with a successful catalog.
Accoutrements is in my home town of Mukilteo, WA and I happen to be a
friend of the president, who's been designing toys for 30 years. He's
so old that he started by designing dinosaurs!
They've also achieved modest fame for other designs, including the
Librarian Action Figure, based on a real Seattle librarian:

Okay -- that's far enough off topic. A nagging question remains:
what's the Dave Matthews connection to his song "Joy Ride," which he's
started playing on the current summer tour?
Well, we can't be certain without Mr. Matthews, but you probably know
that he and the band achieved fame after being formed in
Charlottesville, VA in 1991. However, Matthews and his family have
been living in Seattle for several years. Living on Queen Anne, Dave
would be only a few short miles from the toy store:

Note that the cover of "Some Devil," released in September, 2003,
shows Dave on the Fremont Bridge over the Seattle Ship Canal (looking
west):

Google search strategy: go to kitchen and fetch the bobblehead.

So are you theorizing that Dave saw the Bobblehead in a toy store in Seattle?
I take it you own one of these? Is it worth having?

Psychopoet --
They are sturdy and hand-painted. Much nicer than the dashboard
ornaments of my youth.
Archie McPhee's is a widely distributed catalogue. But with Dave
living in Queen Anne, having kids, and the store being just across the
Fremont Bridge from his house . . . he might well have seen it there.
Best regards,
O.

Which of their products do you own?
I thinking of also getting the Poe Action Figure. What is your
opinion of the quality of the figures?

Remember that we know the owner. We have enough Archie McPhee stuff
to start a museum.
My favorite -- the backwards clock:

My daughter's favorite -- the expandable fork:
http://www.mcphee.com/bigindex/current/10571.html
My wife's -- decorative lights:

Though most toys are now made in China, the bobbleheads and the action
figures appear to be made in the U.S. They're of high quality and
hand-painted.
Not too long ago we had a doctor here. "You can tell if someone's
disoriented in 10 seconds. You just ask them what time it is," he
said during a well-oiled dinner discussion. That's when I trotted out
the backwards clock and asked him, "What time is it?"

Very much so. It's kind of a classic old retail storefront, no stoop
or steps if I recall correctly. The last time I was there (a month
ago?) they were expanding into a neighboring store. It's in Ballard
by the Ship Canal locks, which are a very special place to visit. The
locks even have a fish ladder, viewable through glass.

I assume that you mean the parent company Accoutrements -- according
to my Random House the proper American is "a koo ter ment", though I
tend to use the French "a koo tra men t".

O.
