Hi With cricket it is difficult to gauge attendances because people can come and go throughout the day. Therefore attendances for test matches are normally fluctuating throughout the day. The weather will obviously have an effect as well with some staying and some leaving during showers. For county games in the UK, the figures are so low as to act as a deterrant for attracting new fans. With RU a similar theory applies. Test matches are always sold out. Check the capacity of the grounds for attendances! Not many tickets are sold on the day at these matches, a lot of tickets are corporate hospitality. Attendance levels are largely irrelevant as the ground will always be full but not necessarily with paying 'fans'. Similarly the club games rouse less interest but the press has begun to carry details of attendances at the big european matches. Also there are a lot of non-paying membership to cricket and rugby clubs. These members attend but do not necessarily financially support, the club. I think they are referred to as 'old f*rts' in certain circles :-) These members will not pass through the turnstile so although adding to the figures sort of are non-existant. The proof of this is in the way they do not get excited or make any noise during the play. |
