Driving for 3 or more hours in the heat of the day, my motor home gets
a vapor lock and takes 40 minutes to cool down and restart. The engine
does not overheat. what is the solution?

Is the original fuel pump still in use.

Yes, i believe the fuel pump is original. Some one suggested that if
the tank of fuel gets too low, then the fuel is so hot in the desert
driving condition that the fuel pump will not pump efficiently. But
isn't a pump either working or not. The motorhome will run for five
hours straight if I drive in the cooler hours of the morning. Dan

Dan, I am going to go ahead and give you an answer that I feel is 100%
correct. If you read the following links to discussions that I have
read, I think you will draw the same conclusion. Apparently, Ford put
out a TSB (Tech Service Bulletin) on fuel pumps in the 1990/1997 F-53
chassis 460. Allowing the rig to cool down or adding fuel to cool the
pump allows restart. It looks like when owners contact a Ford dealer
they own up to the problem. Also, it looks like replacement can be
very pricey unless you do it yourself.

Check the fuel lines and see how close they come to the exhaust
manifolds. I would bet that at sometime, someone has replaced
gaslines and they are coming very close to a heat source.
