In Los Angeles County from the 1800's until about 1977, legal
documents were cataloged by a document number for each working day of
recording. Then they were put into "Books" and each document had its
starting "Page." So if, for example, you had a grant deed recorded on
May 5th, 1965, it might be document #1566 (for that day) and be
recorded in Book 4517, at Page 306 of the book of Official Records.
The problem is that most documents are listed (for the public) by the
document number, but to actually go to the Hall of Records and view
the document, or get a copy, you need to know the Book and Page of the
recording. The only people who have the conversion tables for finding
these documents are title companies and a few services companies who,
of course, charge for the conversion.

My question is: Can the conversion tables be found online, free of
charge, for the public to use?

Dear randallt-ga,

Are you only interested in property deeds and grants, or other types
of legal documents as well?

Regards,

I am interested in all recorded documents. If you are able to find
the conversion I am asking for, it will be for all recorded documents
from the late 1800's to about 1977.
