Question ID: 387005
i use an ipod mini at the gym. what are the best non earbud headphones to use
with an eye towards price. what percent better acoustic would a 600
dollar compared to 100 dollars. i tend to get a strange ear resonance
for a couple of days after prolonged headphone use. i wear glasses -
do any headphones allow for them. i do not like behind ear, just
prefer over the head type.
could the noise reduction be giving me the ear fullness sensation?

thank you in advance

are you able to make any comment about 'gym suitability' - i've had
headphones which get sweat saturated due to cushion lining in wrong
spot

also do you know, will it plug directly into my ipod mini?

thank you

Perspiration may be an issue with these headphones, as they use a
cushy velour type material. You might want to contact Sennheiser
www.sennheiserusa.com to see if there's a replacement material to use.
These headphones will work with any standar, however (which may come
with it).

The 650 is relatively new, and supposed to be an improved version of
the 600. How much of an improvement, I don't know; I've never used
them.

According to Headphone.com, "While these babies aren't exactly in the
bargain category, redesigned drivers and an improved headphone cable
give the 650's an even cleaner sound than the 600's with less harmonic
distortion,"

As for the eBay seller, there are places to get these headphones
overseas for much less. This may be one explanation. I bought mine
from Germany a while ago for much less than typical American prices.

to jbf - is it reasonable to leave the question open for a while to
allow for further comment? i have no desire to deny you the fee you
have earned, however i am finding the suggestions of others helpful in
my decision.

Sure, that's no problem...

Crythias has some good points ... etymotic is a very good choice for
such phones (www.etymotic.com), as I have heard (although I haven't
tried them myself).

a line above was somehow garbled:

"These headphones will work with any standard headphone jack on an mp3
or CD player, but may require an adapter, however (which may come with
it)."

Arguably the best headphones and value on the market, as reviewed by
many sources, are the Sennheiser HD-600 or HD-650. If you want
perfect sound, these are the ones to get, and they are extremely
economical for the quality and comfort. Next to these are the Grado
brand headphones.

Here's a link to them for $219.

Note the extremely high ratings at Audio Review:

You would have to have bat ears to hear fidelity over what these can
deliver. I own a pair myself. They are absolute audiophile-level,
neutral, accurate, extremely comfortable, and essentially perfect, for
an incredible price.

Additional reviews can be seen with this search link:

If these work for you, let me know, and I'll post this as an answer.

Don't forget, though, that you might actually get some decent quality
out of in-the-earphones http://www.exhardware.com/reviews.php?Id=134
rather than the typical buds. These block external sound almost
completely, as well as avoid a lot of the problems of sweat-in-ear.

Being not encumbered by your gear while working out is a plus. Not to
mention a bit of the cool factor ...
