Dear valpal-ga,
This is the information I have been able to find.

Lyle C. (Skitch) Henderson, was indicted on 2nd July, 1974, on charges
of tax evasion. The matters related to 1969 - 1970. On 17th January,
1975, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison and fined $10,000 for
filing a false income tax return. He was granted bail pending a
possible appeal.

On 9th April, 1975, it was reported that he entered a minimum-security
Federal prison, Allenwood, Pennsylvania, on April 8, to begin his
sentence.

On 8th October, 1975, following a report of an accident in which he
was involved, it was reported he had been released August 4.

This information has been taken from various news articles:

New York Times July 3, 1974
New York Times January 18, 1975
Newsweek January 27, 1975
New York Times April 9, 1975
New York Times October 8, 1975

I have been unable to establish information on his dismissal from the Tonight Show.

If you cannot view these articles at your local library, you can
access these articles online, but it will costs $2.50 per article.

No, it's the old bearded maestro leading NY's Pop philharmonic
orchestra...who was an old devil long ago!
