http://joyce.eng.yale.edu/~bt/school/report.cgi/grandparent/chlorate/stooge/dipole.htm This encoding seems to be a form of steganography but on a public website. |

I don't believe the text on that page has any meaning whatsoever. It is randomly generated by a cgi script. Try reloading or refreshing the page a few times, and you'll see what I mean. |

As the previous commenter said, there is no meaning to the text. It looks like it is generated by a program called wpoison, which makes up bogus email addresses to "poison" the email databases of spammers who use robots to search web pages for anything@anythingelse.something. It'll keep the robots running in circles, following links to more automatically generated pages with more bogus email addresses. See http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,8852,00.html and http://www.monkeys.com/wpoison/ for more info. |

the above explanation is correct, with one exception, the page is not running wpoison, but rather a homegrown system. http://joyce.eng.yale.edu/~bt/school/faq.html gives all the answers as to what the script is, does, and even a link to the Perl source. |
