I think F. Hilder was British and had links with the West Country. I
have a painting (it is actually done in pastels) of his which is
called 'Fowey' or 'Mevagissey' (I don't recall which) both of which
are places in Cornwall. He is I think a relation of Rowland Hilder,
also an artist though more well known than Felix Hilder.

Checking some fairly in-depth databases for artist info, I came up with:

1. Hilder, J.J. 
  (Australian artist, 1881-1916) 

2. Hilder, P. John 
  (British artist, 1811-1839)   

3. Hilder, Richard 
  (British painter 1813-1852) 
  
4. Hilder, Rowland 
  (British artist, 1905-) 

and also Bim Hilder, Brett Hlder, Edith Hilder, G. Howard Hilder, John
Hilder, but alas...no Felix Hilder.

Yes, the painting I have is signed F. Hilder and according to my aunt is Felix.
