Hello,
Before I continue, please be mindful of the disclaimer below which
states, "Answers and comments provided on Google Answers are general
information, and are not intended to substitute for informed
professional medical... advice." Continuing I believe that you have
developed Bateman's Purpura, which is an common acute skin affliction
which usually affects the elderly, and those who are on different
medications including aspirin and prednisone. According to the link
below, "Prednisone causes the blood vessel walls to become very
fragile" and the reason why this leads to Bateman's Purpura is that,
"Batemans purpura is due to the weakened state of blood vessel
walls." At the bottom of the page, several at home remedies are
offered including applying Vitamin K creams and alpha hydroxyacid
lotions to the skin and "have been shown to increase skin thickness up
to 15% in patients" which in turns reduces the skins purpura tendency
to bruise easily or rupture capillaries. Of course, a dermatologist
can properly diagnose and perscribe more powerful creams and
medications which may work faster than over the counter products.
