Connie --

We can't verify it for you but can tell you how to obtain a death
certificate, provided that Patricia Craft died in the state of
Wisconsin. Would that be adequate for your needs?

Best regards,

Omnivorous-GA

Actually, we can verify the death of Ms. Craft for you (she died in
2002). There is some additional information available, including:

--middle initial

--date of death

--date of birth (and probable state of birth)

--zip code of her residence

and a bit more.

Would that sort of information meet your needs?

this is for pafalafa-ga: I did receive the information from you about
the verification of her death and you say there is a bit more info. I
would like to have all the information you have on Patricia Craft.
Thanks!

Hello Connie,

Most deaths that have occurred in the US in recent years are recorded
by the Social Security Administration in a database known as the
Social Security Death Index, which is accessible here:

http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/

thanks to the RootsWeb genealogy website.

Entering the name Patricia Craft in the appropriate fields returns
several records for the name Patricia Craft, including the one you
asked about:

PATRICIA R CRAFT
Born 31 Aug 1932
Died 12 Dec 2002
Last Residence zip code: 53403 (Racine, WI)
Social Security Number: 429-54-8648
SS# issued in: Arkansas (NOTE: This is usually, but not always, the
state of birth as well)

On the right hand side of the record for Patricia R Craft is a
hyperlink for something called "SS-5 Letter". Clicking on this will
take you to instructions for ordering a copy of the original SS#
aplication for Ms. Craft, if this is of interest to you.

There MAY be additional information available at the "Search
Ancestry.com" link as well, although you would have to subscribe to
their service in order to see if any of the results for the name
"Patricia Craft" were for the specific person of interest to you.

By the way, I conducted a detailed search of several newspaper files,
hoping to find an obituary for Ms. Craft, but none seemed to be
available.

Hope this is what you needed. Before rating this answer, please let
me know if you need any additional explanations of the information
here.

I appreciate your additional information about Patricia; I am
wondering if her death certicate states where she died and of what she
died from. Thanks!

Hello again, Connie.

Death certificates are usually available from the state authorities in
which the death occurred. Although some states make it possible to
request such information online, Wisconsin does not. You will need to
contact their vital records office directly -- via phone or mail -- to
request a copy of the death certificate in question. The procedure
for doing so is included here:

http://www.dhfs.state.wi.us/VitalRecords/death.htm

The certificate may or may not include information about the cause of
death, and other information as well, such as the place and
circumstances of death. The only way to know for sure is to request a
copy from the state.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

I really appreciate the answer I received. I was hoping for
verification with a death record but I will have to get that from
Wisconsin if that in fact is where she died at the time. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback.

I failed to point out in my initial answer that the death -- as
reported to the US Social Security Administration -- is listed as
"verified". That is:

"V)=(Verified) Report verified with a family member or someone acting
on behalf of a family member."

Hope that helps.
