Several nasty hot-tub incidents were in the news. See http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5112.html. Please list the three most dangerous hot tubs, manufacturer and model, per news reports. Also please list three safest, by manufacturer and model. Tip of $2 each for next three in each category. Tip of $3 for the term for form by which "Jacuzzi" is used as a synonym for "hot tub." (Other than "metonymy.") Other examples include Formica, Frigidaire, aspirin, etc. |

Regarding the term for a brand name (such as "Jacuzzi") being used as a synonym for an entire class of similar items, I suggest "genericization." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genericized_trademark |

"Genericized" sounds okay to me. Wikipedia suggests that this the result of excessive "mind share." If I spin this off as a separate, $3 question, I should state that it is reserved for pinkfreud. Do we need any education? Do we need any thought control? (rhetorical questions, not posted for google.answers) |
