Hi mike42,

Thank you for your interesting question.

Obviously I am not able to call each night club/restaurant and find
out if the information listed is up-to-date. Please phone to verify
information listed.

I've tried very hard to keep the list strictly to night clubs that
provide dance floors with live Latin music. Some of the places offer
dancing lessons (prior to opening for the evening crowd).

The list is in alphabetical order...

With that said:

next door, with live bands, dancing. Tapas menu till 2 AM weekends.

REGULAR WEEKLY EVENTS

Mondays
FREE DANCE INSTRUCTION
perfect for beginners!
From 8 - 9 p.m.

teaching you salsa, merengue, mambo
and more (1 drink minimum).

Tuesdays
from 8 p.m.
Latin Night
The best of Latin music,
from Cuban timba to classic
Puerto Rican!

This ultra-cool little lounge is so cool, that there's no attitude,
just incredible music, at the perfect level to talk or dance. Perhaps
that's why the likes of Mira Sorvino, Karim Noack, Juan
Moreno-Velazquez (entertainment editor of El Diario-La Prensa),
authentic Cuban-style dancer Daria Sanchez (she's Sol Y Luna
Entertainment), and salsa scene-makers Marco Salcedo and Fernando
Lamadrid feel so comfortable here... The V-shaped bar, logo and even
chairs reflect the glowing coral-red, womb-like atmosphere, summed up
by the tongue-in-cheek (!) slogan, "every night's an opening."
Innuendos aside, ethno-musical culture is nurtured here, especially
when brilliant co-owner Chris Pollock takes your mind on a deeper and
higher trip, spinning his world-class taste honed by living many
places including several African countries. Other fine DJs alternate,
and occasionally there are live bands. On Tuesdays, friendly Felix de
Jesus and some of his regular dance partners teach free lessons and
demonstrate Salsa, Rumba, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha. It all starts at 8,
with special focus on Cuban salsa after 11 p.m. A fine trip! On
Sundays, check out the largely Latin Jazz, from Eddie Palmieri to
Pucho and his Latin Soul Brothers, mixed with mellow sounds from
around the world. With this music and this attitude, Lava Gina really
is "New York's premier world music lounge!"
