I'm looking for a science fiction short story, at least 20 years old, about a small colony on a planet (Venus, I think, though I'm not sure) where all the children are the same age and have lived there all their lives in darkness and do not remember the sun. One girl does remember the sun because she came to the colony later in her life. The other children bully her relentlessly. On the one day that the sun is going to be out, they lock her in a closet and inadvertantly leave her there all day. But when they see the sun, they realize she was right about what it was like. An answer will include the title of the story, the author, and where it can be found in publication. |
