Based on numbers from the McDonald's "Hot Coffee" lawsuit from several years back, they sold about $1.3 million each day on average for coffee ($474.5 million yearly) in the US. In 2001 (around the same time as the McDonald's lawsuit), Starbucks sold $664 million yearly worth of goods in general (this includes pastries, cappuccinos, mugs, etc.) Thus, at that time, given the significantly higher prices at Starbucks, it would be reasonable to assume at that time that McDonald's sold more cups of coffee (a cup costs, what, $1 at McDonalds and $2 at Starbucks?) Of course this all could have changed in the last few years as Starbucks has expanded rapidly. |

You might also like to limit this question if you mean "in the USA." Both Maccas and Starbucks have international presence, but to what degree? A. |
