I have installed XP Pro and no sound. I have installed the P4PE-X soundmax drivers and no sound. Device manager says ! at Multimedia Audio Controller. Sometimes it tries to install Rrealtek, sometimes soundmax. Always ends in 'There was an error during installing -- Data is invalid.' Trying to load, after reboot, it says, DSndUp Error -- No ATI Codec driver was loaded. Now it wants smwdm.dll -- that is nowhere on my computer or CDs. Help me get my sound. Called ASUS -- tey said reinstall Windows fresh but this IS a fresh install. Called vendor who sold me the computer at computer show and they said get newest drivers, but I did that already off the internet. |

You probably already have it, but here's the ASUS link for the sound card driver for Windows: http://www.asus.com/support/download/selectftp.aspx?l1_id=1&l2_id=15&l3_id=15&m_id=5&f_name=Adiwdm_3665.zip~zaqwedc You'll find a couple of copies of "smwdm.sys" in there. |
