Shackles -- Birmingham, AL, in Jefferson County is located between Red Mountain and Sand Mountain -- both part of the Cumberland Plateau. So, unless you live on one of the lakes or rivers in the area you'll be living on a "plateau". Birmingham sits near the southwest corner of the plateau that's part of the Appalachian Mountain structure: University of Alabama "General Physiography (map)" http://alabamamaps.ua.edu/alabama/physical/basemap6.jpg "Physiographic Regions (map)" http://alabamamaps.ua.edu/alabama/physical/al_physio.pdf For a more complete description of all of the areas of the state of Alabama, you might wish to consult this site: Netstate "Geography of Alabama" http://www.netstate.com/states/geography/al_geography.htm Google search strategy: Appalachian plateau + Birmingham Cumberland plateau + Birmingham Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |
