becky54 -- The song is "Nagasaki," and it was composed by Mort Dixon and Harry Warren in 1928. Here are the lyrics: "Hot ginger and dynamite There's nothing but that at night. Back in Nagasaki where the fellers chew tobaccy And the women wicky wacky woo. "The way they can entertain Would hurry a hurricane. Back in Nagasaki where the fellers chew tobaccy And the women wicky wacky woo. "In Fujiyama you get a mommer And your troubles increase. In some pagoda she orders soda The earth shakes milk shakes ten cents a piece. "They kissee and huggee nice By jingo it's worth the price. Back in Nagasaki where the fellers chew tobaccy And the women wicky wacky woo. University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh http://www.uwosh.edu/home_pages/faculty_staff/earns/song.html The song became a wildly successful uptempo jazz and swing standard, mainly in instrumental versions, and there are many recordings of it available on CD reissues. Here are links to ordering pages for two of them by two of the artists most associated with the song: Here's a link to a vocal version (with an audio clip): Barnes & Noble: The Mills Brothers: Jukebox Memories http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?sourceid=00401402266059962218&ean=824046025229&bfdate=08-17-2004+12:10:31 And here's a link to a CD with the most famous instrumental version: Barnes & Noble: Benny Goodman: Essential Gold http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?sourceid=00401402268281160727&ean=827139350222&bfdate=08-17-2004+12:17:40 Search Strategy: I am familiar with the song, so the research involved finding the lyrics and a sample of the available recordings. Here is a Google search that you can use to find out more about the song and its composers and performers: nagasaki mort dixon ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=nagasaki+mort+dixon+ I am confident that this is exactly the information you are looking for, and I am happy to have able to provide it for you promptly. Thank you so much for all the information. I am passing this on to my mother. She's 82 and recently had a stroke. For whatever weird reason, this was the song that popped into her head so I was curious to find the rest of the song. Mystery solved!! Thanks again. Becky |
