Question ID: 389286
I have a personally owned DVD (converted from SVHS - excellent
resolution) that I need to do some light editing and then recreate to
DVD. I used an app called DVD to MPEG with the highest settings, but
the quality of the MPEG is simply not sufficient. My question/plan is
as follows:

What app can you recommend to convert the DVD? (freeware or less than $100)
Any specific setting associated with the recommended app?
Is MPEG the appropriate medium to convert to? (AVI?)
I am using Vegas Video to edit the file - basically adding titles/credits

I then intend to Render an MPEG2 from Vegas and create a DVD using
Sonic My DVD. I also own DVDit - but have had little success with that
program.

Does this sound like the correct plan of attack? I need the file (1 hr
20 mins) to fit on a single side DVD. Plenty of HDD space, decent PC,
512 mb, NVIDIA 64mb - GeForce3 Ti 200 - the PC can't be upgraded. I do
have Windows Movie Maker, but the problem seems not with Vegas Video,
but with converting the source DVD. I need the quality to be mint.

I have spent hours on VCDhelp.com and also have TMPENG free download.
It doesn't look like I can go right from DVD to TMPENG? Do I have to
"rip" first? If so, same question applies, how do I rip, convert to
MPEG, edit and the burn DVD w/o killing resolution?

Thanks in advance.

I answerd a similar question before:
( http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=377752 ) could be
helpful for you. I converted ("ripped") several DVDs to mpeg2 without
quality loss.

Thanks till-ga. I was looking at DVDx on vcdhelp, but didn't download
it. After about 3 hours playing with various programs (IMtoo and MPEG
Converter) with little success I am now writing the DVD to a DV Cam
tape and then pulling the video in that way. It's real time and idiot
proof (I hope). I'm going to cancel the question. I'm brand new to
answers - can I/should I tip you after canceling?

Regardless, sincere thanks for your comments.
