Question ID: 389521
How many monkeys are there in the world? Specifically I need evidence
that there are more than 100 million if possible (thats the bet!).
Only proper monkeys are included - not other primates.

Secondly - I need to know whether there are any countries where
monkeys outnumber people - and if possible an estimate of the number
of such countries. Evidence that there are many of these (more than 5)
will earn an extra tip :).

The second part of the question may be very difficult to answer - so
I'll accept a quite sketchy answer if necessary.

Thanks - Delard

Hi Delard!

Here are a few places where monkeys outnumber people:

Monkeys outnumber humans on the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis.

?One of the strangest, but most wonderful facts about St. Kitts-Nevis
is that there are more monkeys than people on the two islands
combined?50,000 (some estimate as many as 125,000 monkeys to 45,000
humans.?

?Simian terror continues to hound Vivek Vihar residents.
The simian tribe descended on this colony two-and-a-half years ago.
Now there are more monkeys than residents in the colony. Incredible
but true.?

?People on a Ugandan island have been told to kill as many monkeys as they can.
Monkeys outnumber people by 28 to one and officials say the animals
are posing a health risk.
Kalangala District chairman, Daniel Kikora, has told Uganda's New
Vision newspaper the monkeys are destroying too many crops.
He added: "We are about 18,000 people on the island and they are more
than 80,000. We are now looking for possible means of how we can get
rid of them,."
