Question ID: 389543
I am trying to find out what windows 2000 service controls mass
storage/RAID devices.

My situation is as follows.
I run windows 2000 professional, and I have a Promise brand ATA
controller built into my motherboard. I was updating the drivers for
the promise controller earlier today, and windows asked for a restart.
Now, the system hangs upon the windows bootup. The progress bar
freezes up, and my system stops responding. Obviously I did not
install the proper drivers...

I have tried booting up in various types of safe mode, none of them
working. From what I have read off the microsoft website, safe mode
loads drivers for mouse, keyboard, display, etc.., and mass storage
devices. What this means is that no matter which way I boot up
windows, the mass storage drivers still load. I have also attempted
to do a windows 2000 automated recovery from the windows 2000
professional CD. This was unsuccessful.

What it comes down to is I must boot into the recovery console from
the windows 2000 CD and use the "disable" command to disable the
service controlling the RAID/mass storage devices. Only problem is, I
do not know which service controls this device.

I have been utilizing the following links for my situation:

This is as far as I've come without destroying my computer. Please
help me. Thank you.
