In Louisa May Alcott's "Little Men," a character says: "Don't you know
how Hannah Lee in the pretty story slept under the snow and died?"
Which story? If you give me author, title, and publication info, I'll
happily consider this answered. Thanks!

One researcher helpfully suggested an anonymous juvenile reader "Rest
for the Weary; or, The Story of Hannah Lee" (Philadelphia: American
Sunday-School Union, n.d. c. 1860s?); I bought this but unfortunately
it doesn't seem to fit...no one dies in the snow. I think the American
Tract Society book suggested on 8/24 is probably the same ("Rest for
the Weary" says it's reprinted from the London Tract Society, on the
copyright page.)

"Hannah Lee" pulled up John Wilson, "Lights and Shadows of Scottish
Life" (1822) as a possibility on OCLC so I am cancelling the question
and will check it out.

rrtnrvrb --

I have found one tantalizing lead, but nothing further. The
following is an excerpt from a large inventory of religious books
offered online by Chimney Sweep Books:

"BINV5124 American Tract Society ABEL GREY by the Author of "Hannah
Lee," "Isabel," Etc. steel engraved frontis NY American Tract Society
no date Reprinted from the London Religious Tract Society original
embossed cloth 4x6" 212pp Binding shows edgewear; text clean,
complete, tight. Rear free endpaper missing. Didactic children's lit
15.00"

The American Tract Society is an evangelical Christian association
founded in 1825 that has published a very large number of stories and
books, but I have found no other reference to one entitled "Hannah
Lee."
