Hi there Dina :)
Couldn't resist this question as I absolutely LOVE vintage jewellery
and accessories. I'm pleased to say that the research done on your
question has only added fuel to the fire!
A couple of clarifications before I continue:
1. I wasn't sure where you were based so all of my results are
US-based however, please note that all suppliers listed have stated
that they DO ship internationally (and you will need to request
separate international shipping rates if you are ordering outside of
the US);
2. I am based in England therefore please note that out of habit
(smile), my spellings will be UK spellings - this does not detract
from the information provided and I just wanted to confirm that all of
the information found is based on US web sites and information;
3. In a lot of cases, searches for information yielded mostly purses
and bags, particularly the eBay searches. What I would suggest to you
is to bear in mind that quite often, people will use the term "purse"
quite freely and items which might normally be identified as
"cigarette cases" might, in fact, be found under the term "purse",
particularly "oversized purses";
4. In many cases, you will probably be ahead of the game (Whiting &
Davis cigarette cases seem to be in great demand!) if you
email/contact the seller directly even if they DON't have a cigarette
case listed on their site - the reason for this is that when they do
eventually get such an item in stock, they will remember that you have
asked for it! For example, as a frequent eBayer, I often email
sellers directly, stating that although I'm not interested in a
particular item that they have for sale at the moment, I would be
interested if they got something specific in stock and would
appreciate them emailing me - I have found many great bargains this
way, both internationally and domestically.
The following resources, I am sure, will keep you busy! I was
absolutely astounded at the amount and quality of vintage accessories
available for purchase via the web. Most of the suppliers noted sell,
in addition to cigarette cases, purses, combs, pill boxes, hair clips,
jewellery and pretty much any other kind of accessory you can think
of!
A.Divine Finds - this store specialise in vintage clothing and
accessories and the best part...if you order during the month of July
(US customers only), you get free shipping! You can find them at:
http://www.fashiondig.com/divinefinds/
and they had listed the following items:
1. black or ivory cigarette case with signature (scroll down about
two thirds of the way down the page)- although both items were sold,
this site is worth noting for future reference. The cigarette cases
sold at $35 each and are listed "in very good condition and lined".
2. cigarette case and change purse sold as set $40 - silver mesh -
(scroll down about two thirds of the way down the page) - STILL
AVAILABLE - change purse slightly worn - cigarette case has round zip
top closure to hold king size cigarettes - direct web link is at:
http://www.phillyantiques.com/fashiondig/divinefinds/
In both cases, you can click on the pictures for full size image shots
which are very clear and allow you to see the condition of the items.
The description seems quite fair and honest as well (e.g. above change
purse described as "slightly worn").
For shipping and handling charges, you need to contact Divine Finds
directly. They will notify you of shipping costs prior to taking
payment. They accept credit cards (secure online shopping
facilities), money orders and personal cheques (which must clear
before item is shipped). All items are shipped using insured priority
mail.
To contact Divine Finds directly:
E-mail: divinefinds@fashiondig.com
Phone: (716) 310-6599
Alternatively, you can fill out a form specifiying a particular item
(click on "seeking information" button:)

B. Collections by Ann - Vintage Jewellry and Accessories - again,
specialising in vintage accessories such as pillboxes and perfume
compacts, their collection pages show mostly purses and bags but I
thing it would be worth contacting them and asking about cigarette
cases. You can find them here:
http://pages.tias.com/36/InventoryPage/895/1.html
and their email contact address is:
E-Mail: ann@annscollection.com
C. Glitter Gals - a lovely, fun vintage accessory site, I did a search
from their main page at:
http://www.tias.com/stores/glittergals/
using the term "cigarette case" and found:
1. a pearlised cigarette case ($18.50) and gold tone cigarette case
($19.50)- the direct search link result is at:
http://search.tias.com/cgi-bin/altavista.fcgi?store=%2Fstores%2Fglittergals&resultPageTemplate=ResultPage.html&resultItemTemplate=ResultItem.txt&noResultPageTemplate=NoResultPage.html&case=no&primaryServer=www.tias.com&minPrice=0&searchText=cigarette&matchAll=1&submit1=Search+Now%21
Using the search term "Whiting and Davis" on the same site found:
2. Whiting and Davis mesh bag with rhinestone clasp ($58):
http://pages.tias.com/2385/InventoryPage/284206/1.html
Additionally, on the Glitter Gals site, you can ask a question about
any of their items (e.g. the Whiting and Davis mesh bag above) by
clicking on the "ask a question" link:
http://www.tias.com/cgi-bin/item-question.cgi
As with the other sites listed, shipping and handling will be advised
prior to shipping by priority mail. They also have a newsletter and
mailing list which you can subscribe to by clicking on the appropriate
links on the site.
D. Recyklotron - another seller of retro items, including several
Whiting and Davis purses, their site can be found at:
http://recyklotron.com/wvcloth2.htm
Scroll down the page and you will find a Whiting and Davis off-white
enamel mesh
zip cigarette case (4 pieces of the mesh are missing) for $22
For shipping and handling costs, you should email them at
mail@recyklotron.com and include your postcode to get an accurate
shipping quote. This site only accepts money orders or cheques and
will ship the item when your payment clears.
E. Baubles, Bangles and Beads - fabulous site with really good photos
(you can click on photos for supersize images) of all their
accessories and products. They can be found at:
http://www.bbbeads.com/accessor2.htm
On their site, I found a silver Whiting and Davis wallet for $15 (on
hold) which seems to be a good indication that they may get other
Whiting and Davis products in stock from time to time.
Email them at hgoveia@aol.com. Items can be put on hold while they
find a shipping and handling quote for you - check out their
order/info form at:
http://www.bbbeads.com/form.htm
F. Granny's Jewellry Box - what a cool name for a vintage site. Find
their site at:
http://www.grannysjewelrybox.com/misc.htm
where they have a selection of hair combs, watch chains and small
purses. Some of their items are even in their original packaging!
For full order info and inquiries, you can fill out a form at:
http://www.grannysjewelrybox.com/info.htm
They will only hold items for you once notification is received by
them that your payment is on its way. They accept cheques and money
orders as well as visa although I couldn't find a secure service for
the processing of their credit card orders. Also of interest, they
have a layway plan for items costing over $100 (sure to come in handy
during that inevitable shopping spree)!
They offer flat rate 1st class shipping of $2.50 plus insurance for
items under $100 and flat rate 1st class shipping 0f $3.85 plus
insurance for items over $100.
They also have a "leave a message" service for questions regarding
stock items -you will find the link at the top left hand side of their
order information page.
G. Eclectica Gift Boutique - another great retro site found at:
http://www.eclecticala.com/boutique/btq-816a.htm
Their "Sophisticated Lady Set" (unfortunately already sold but worth a
look for the picture alone) includes belt, cigarette case (Whiting and
Davis), lighter and cigarette holder.
To ask them a question about future stock items, email them at:
info@eclecticala.com
They accept Paypal, Visa, personal cheques and money orders. Shipping
and handling prices are available upon request.
H. Jarrett's Jade Vintage Jewellry - exquisite accessories and photos
at this site (unfortunately, some of the text is hard to read) but you
should definitely have a look at their stuff at:
http://jarrett.fabpage.com/Ladies%20Accessories.htm
They sell money clips, pill boxes, cigarette cases, hair combs, hat
pins and also, a Whiting and Davis goldtone mesh bag at $125.
For their ordering and information page, go to:
http://www.tace.com/vendors/bjarrett/ordermemo.htm
They take Paypal, personal cheques and money orders and are also
listed on the US eBay site at:
http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=jarjade&completed=0&sort=3&since=-1&include=0&page=1&rows=25
Further product information (including a catalogue) can be obtained by
emailing them at:
wjarrett@cfl.rr.com
or by telephoning or faxing them at (407) 647-4303
Extra bonus from this site is their postage calculation form:
http://www.tace.com/vendors/bjarrett/POSTAGECAL.htm
where you can chose from priority mail or parcel post service, add
your zip code and the form will calculate postage for you.
This is probably someone who you should definitely contact and ask him
to notify you if he ever gets any Whiting and Davis cigarette cases in
stock.
I. Ebay. What more can I say?! As a frequent eBayer, I am a firm
believer that you will always eventually find what you want on eBay!
As an example, I did a few basic eBay searchs and list the results
(and a few sample items found) below:
1. "cigarette case":
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=cigarette+case&ht=1&itemtimedisp=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&BasicSearch=
975 listed items came up including cigarette cases made from sterling
silver, bakelite, mesh of varying colours and leather.
2. "whiting":
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=whiting&ht=1&itemtimedisp=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&BasicSearch=
854 listed items came up including a Whiting and Davis silver tone
mesh bag ($19.99) at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2120003160
and a white Whiting & Davis mesh bag ($10.50):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2120707792
3. "Whiting & Davis":
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=Whiting+%26+Davis&ht=1&itemtimedisp=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&BasicSearch=
175 listed items found including a Whiting and Davis silver mesh purse
($49.99) at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2120445156
and an oversized Whiting and Davis black and white mesh purse for $89
(could possibly double as a cigarette case?) at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2120198849
In addition, there are a multitude of Whiting and Davis rings,
bracelets and necklaces (check out this Whiting and Davis silver mesh
necklace for $14.99 at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=943025505)
that can be found under the same search listings.
Remember, eBay listings (and prices) are changing constantly so there
is a very good chance that you will find what you are looking forward.
As mentioned earlier, it really is worth emailing some of the sellers
directly (some of them also have separate eBay shops) and asking them
to let you know when they get your desired product in stock.
I hope that you find this answer useful and that it assists you in
finding your object of desire :) I had great fun researching it! If
you are pleased with the results, please feel free to leave some
positive comments and let us know how you got on with your search.
For your future reference, I have listed the search terms used below:
