Why does my Gateway with 800 mz front side buss, a Pentium Extreme Edition CPU, and Windows XP show two CPUs in task manager and and why does the performance graph show about 50% CPU utilization on the most demanding tasks. It seems as if the operating system has split my CPU and that programs that can only use one CPU in a multi CPU computer are only using half of my CPU. Bottom line - Is my CPU being fully utilized on demanding tasks in Photoshop and MathCad that are not set up to utilize two CPUs - Despite the indication in Task Manager? |

This is due to the CPU being 'Hyperthreaded' which means that it runs as 2 virtual CPU's |

To elaborate, only applications designed with hyperthreading in mind will be able to use the CPU at its fullest |
