You will probably get many answers, but fwiw afoaf got a finance
degree to make his parents happy, then worked at a bank for 2 years
and hated it. Film school seems to have been worth it for him,
because he moved from Chicago to LA to attend one. He is working an
admin job at a talent agency in addition to school. Talking to him,
he emphasizes that it is a "foot in the door" deal where you slowly
make contacts who might later help you with your own project - a slow
process. But he's happier now. Good luck to you.

Do you think that would be a better choice then just moving to LA and
trying to get in there somehow, without going the path of film school.

this is a hard decision many of us artisans face. is my dream
realistic will i make it?
i think this is a concern of yours
Kevin Smith says get as much credit as you can, and get as many credit
cards you need maxed to make your movie.
on the other hand, if you can go to school, then why not? all that
training will if anything give you more confidence and more of a
foundation, plus art schools like art institute, where im going to go,
www.aipx.edu you have access to contacts in the buisness, plus, plus
they HELP you to get internships, and serious paying jobs after high
school. film graduates at art institute have over 75 percent
employment within 6 months of graduation. so id say shop around and
find the school that is going to give your art a fine tuning, while
still coming out the other side as you, and gives you contacts, and a
chance to use their very expensive resources for making some films to
show potential investors. full sail college, also has alot of very
succesful graduates from their film programs, theyre based in florida.
and they might have a 2 year program. i was thinking of going their
for recording arts because they have a 2 year program. a 4 year too if
you want buisness skills with it. well you got that my friend! so
check out if they have a 2 year, to lessen the burden on your
finances. if you really love it man, you ll make it, thats what any
succesful artist will tell you. i personally want to act, i have
wanted to act since i was 2 and i believe when your that young you
have the knowledge of the real purpose that youre here, but im still
going to school for some back up options incase its just a delusion.
but hey more school never hurts.

if you found my statement at all helpful heres an addition
i have a friend whos an aspiring film maker who currently works as a
cameraman for a local tv network. he has ambitions of being a
director, and ive had a small role in a short film he did. but he
doesnt have the financial resources or motivation to really get
moving- my own observation. if youre in the same spot, get loans and
grants, which the private schools are very helpful with, and they'll
also give you the deadlines, procastonators like me need in order, to
work hard.
