I'm looking for more information on a portion of the Universal
blacklot, which was in the mid 80's (and may still be) on the
Universal Studios tram tour. It was an exterior, suburban-looking
street scene; as I remember, it included an irregular park-like,
curbed, grassy island with a number of trees, and curved streets all
around. It had been carefully planted and laid out to appear like a
completely different location from different viewpoints, so it could
be used over and over as a filming location without looking too
familiar to viewers. The guide even gave a specific number of
possible viewpoints -- 238, something like that. Her comment
suggested a whole technical discipline devoted to designing one single
physical space that looks like many different spaces from the maximum
number of viewpoints. I'd like to know if this is true, if this
design tactic has a name, and a source to explain how it's done. |
