Question ID: 391250
When I select a web URL that isn't working - or has a problem, my IE
Explorer 6 (Win XP HOME) gives me that nasty error sound, and a
Windows error box appears and shows

Microsoft Visual C++ Library

Runtime Error!

 C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe

"The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
unusual way." Please contact the support team for for more
information.

___

I don't get any 404 error pages anymore - just this -a nd then
clicking it shuts down the browser!

Help - I want to know what to do to repair this.
a. I have automatic live update on.
b. Using Norton System works - firewall and auto-protect, but was
using them long before any of this.

Thanks,
Rick

I won't post a formal answer without knowing for sure if this
will fix your problem, but this seems relevant. From the error
message archives of Henri Leboeuf:

"Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\explore.exe
The application has requested the runtime to terminate it
 in an unusual way."

"It appears that I have both Java(Sun) and MS VM on the PC.
After disabling/unchecking Java(Sun) the runtime error
 ceased in IE6"
http://www.colba.net/~hlebo49/

To quickly disable, rather than uninstall, the MS Java
Virtual Machine, which should have the same effect,
go to Start -> Run -> type in cmd and hit Enter.
At the Command Prompt, type in:
Unregister: regsvr32 /u D:\WINNT\system32\msjava.dll

...and hit Enter. This will disable the MS Java
Virtual Machine. If it *was* installed, you will receive
a message saying the dll was successfully unregistered.
You can go through a formal uninstall later, if you like.

Shut down all open sessions of your IE browser and
then re-open it and test the browser on a URL which
has caused problems in the past.

If this works, do let me know, so I can post a formal
answer and claim the fee. If it doesn't work, let me
know that, as well.

So Rick...

Was my suggestion as useful to you as it was to our happy
commentor? Some feedback would be helpful.

I tried the command you suggested, but it continued to give me
"unregister is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

?? What's next.

PS: I tried typing in the command replacing the D: with a C: and
uncapitolizing and well as capitolizing the U in Unregister.

Help!

Rick...

Oops. I accidentally included my notation along with the command.
Use this instead:

regsvr32 /u C:\WINNT\system32\msjava.dll

Again, I apologize for any frustration this may have caused you.

When I entered that command, it produced:

LoadLibrary ("C:\WINNT\system32\msjava.dll") failed.

The specified module could not be found.

?? What do you suggest now my friend?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick...

Live and learn. I use Windows 2000, so my Windows directory is
C:\\WINNT but a little research shows that XP uses C:\\Windows
so, try using this:

regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\system32\msjava.dll

I'm expecting great things... ;)
