I am writing because I am the captain of an equestrian team that is
considered a club sport at a small private college in Northfield, MN.
We recieve very little funding or support from our school even though
we have achieved great standing on a national level. I would like to
find ideas about how to raise money in a small college town that do
not require much overhead.

I have found that college students are not a good resource. For
instance, we tried selling raffle tickets for a 50/50 raffle (winner
keeps half of the money raised), but found that many students were not
willing to buy them. In addition, we are discouraged from going door
to door within our college town so as to limit the harassment of town
residences.

What are your suggestions?

You could put an add in the newspaper or local radio station asking
for fundraiser money. You could also set adds up for a car wash or
something else under those lines and have one and raise a lot of
money.
