hyrum -- Alexander the Great din 323 B.C.: Pothos.org: Alexander the Great http://www.pothos.org/alexander.asp?paraID=8&keyword_id=2&title=Alexander%20the%20Great The U.S. Census has conducted a review of world population estimates by various experts and has published a population timeline based on the best available evidence. Here is a link to it: U. S. Census Bureau: Historical Estimates of World Population http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/worldhis.html According to this evidence, the world population in 400 B.C. was about 162 million and about 190 million in 200 B.C. (the average of the high and low estimates given in the table for that year). Since population growth was slow and rather linear at this stage of history, you would be reasonable to assume that the population in 323 B.C. was about 175 million. This timeline is a very handy tool if you need a citation for this kind of information because the table includes the individual estimates from the various scholarly sources for each benchmark year. Additional information: In case a graphic representation of a world population growth timeline would be useful to you, here is a link to one: Western Washington University http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/webstuff/demographs/world.html Search Strategy: After finding the date of Alexander the Great's death with a simple Google search on his name, I used various Google searches to find the information you are seeking and to become reasonably confident that this is the best information available. The most useful of those searches was this one: world population bc ://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=world+population+bc I am confident that this is exactly the information you are seeking.
