How do I remove mothball odors from a car? The car has upholstered seats. I'm told that mothballs were kept in the trunk for years to deter squirrels while the car was in storage. Now the passenger cabin reeks of mothballs. Baking soda has not helped. Neither has an odor-eliminating spray (Febreze or some such). Please only give inexpensive suggestions (ideas cheaper than professional cleaning). |

Put a large mesh bag of fresh cedar chips (or shavings) in the trunk and a couple of smaller ones under the seats. This will take some time but it works. Give it a try then come back and let me know. tutuzdad-ga |

That's funny the first thing I thought of was, "Great, from Mothballs that smell like Grandma's house to a Gerbil Cage!!!" |

From what I hear, gerbil cage smell would be a great improvement. I have not actually smelled the car for myself (it's my sister's) but am looking forward to that experience over the weekend. :) Thanks for the suggestion, tutuzdad! |
