Question: Hi there! Can you please tell me what computers this SDRAM
is for? The label has the following: Toshiba T7YL2L-80 PC100-222-620R
538124/0051UKC 64M x 72 SDRAM. The smaller label says 512MB Sync
100Mhz CL2 ECC. This SDRAM is larger than the ones for Intel-based
personal computers.

A friend gave me this memory as a gift, but I have no idea what
computers it is for. Thanks in advanced.

I have searched throughout the "Google" web and even asked Toshiba
directly. No dice. Toshiba no longer supports commodity DRAM and would
not answer my question (or refer me to another company). So I thought
may be you can find out.

Thanks in advanced.

This memory stick on ebay sounds like what you have.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14918&item=6702942514&rd=1

The link says that it is from a server of some sort. However there is
also the chance that your stick is from a laptop, but since you said
the stick was larger than Intel based computers, I'm guessing this is
not the case. Here is a picture of the laptop memory.

Searching for PC100-222-620R in ebay returns quite a few results. My
best guess is your stick looks like the top most link, and that you
probably don't have a server that it will work in. The good news is
you can ebay it for 15-20 bucks.

Thanks for trying, but the SDRAM on eBay is too small. The SDRAM I
have is 6-inches long, 1-3/4 inches wide (15.5cm x 4.5cm respectively)
and has chips on both sides. On the label side (gold connector down),
it has 5 chips on the left lined up sequentially, then 2 small chips,
then 4 chips on the right (again lined up sequentially. In the back,
it has 4 chips on the left, one small chip, then 5 chips on the right.

Too bad I cannot upload a photo of this to show you...

Well darn. Here is what I can tell you from the model number you
listed. It is SDRAM, meaning it isn't DDR memory and might fit into an
older Intel 440 style motherboard. It is PC100, meaning the fastest it
will run at is 100 MHz. It is ECC (error correcting codes), meaning
that if there is ever an error in the data it will get fixed. Usually
servers run ECC since mission critical applications don't like getting
random errors. It is CL2, meaning it is has a low latency compared to
"regular" memory.

If you have a pentium 3ish computer that takes a 168 pin memory
module, I'd slap the one you have in and see if it works. Just make
sure that your memory bus is running at 100 MHz or slower, otherwise
it definitely won't boot up.

Good luck!

I have a SuperMicro P6DBU 440BX server which uses PC100 ECC SDRAM, and
the Toshiba SDRAM does not fit ... it is way too long for the memory
slots. So the Toshiba SDRAM definitely belongs to a non-Intel server
or PC that uses PC100 SDRAM.

Toshiba finally referred me to Kingston, and Kingston sales is stumped
too. They have referred by inquiry to their tech support.

No word from Kingston. I think they forgot about me :-)

Any ideas anyone?
