I've seen references that WIn2003 usernames can be up to 30 chars in
length when backwards compatibilty is not important. When I try to
create a new user on my machine with a name of 25 chars using either
NET USER or the UI, it is rejected.

What do I need to do in order to make Windows let me use the full 30 chars?

I know this is possible becuase I had a machine that was set up to
allow it and it worked fine.

Hello!

Most documents mention the limitation of 20 characters for username.

I came across a setting for Connection Manager on Microsoft Technet
that has a value which lets you change the value of the key
MaxUserName

"MaxUserName Specifies the maximum length of the user name that the user can type.
Default = 256 bytes.
 .cms [Connection Manager] "

You ay also have a look at "Advanced Customization Options for
Connection Manager" at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/default.asp?url=/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/ierk/Ch14_d.asp

Please read more about this at
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/techref/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/techref/en-us/w2k3tr_cm_tools.asp
and let me know if this can help you. I do not access to Windows 2003
server, I would have tried it myself otherwise.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, this setting only lets you change the length of the
username sent when logging into other servers with IE. I'm looking for
a way to change the length of the actual username on the server.
