Question ID: 392372
What are the names and locations of films/dvd/videotapes (or any
filmed examples) that were made pre-1942 that show a person or people
saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag? I am seeking such
film examples.

Here's a link to an on-line film about the flag made in 1938:

I didn't spot any pledge of allegiance scenes, but I haven't viewed it
in its entirety. It might be of interest, regardless.

Is this on track for your needs?

thanks for your response, and I am trying to view it. so far, I am
not sure if it fits, but it does cause me to clarify that I am looking
for people who are actually visibly seen performing the pledge
pre-1942. Not just audio on a film of some other scene. thanks a
lot.

I viewed it and oddly enough there isn't even a mention of the Pledge
in it. It is odd that a film like that wouldn't even mention the
pledge. Thanks for showing it to me.

Sure...I'm not too familiar with the history of the pledge, but it
might not have been the big deal in 1938 that we tend to make of it
today.

Here's a description of one such film:

http://www.footage.net/cgi-bin/FN/director.cgi?calling=docview&table=archive&pkey=15616&query=$(pledge+of+allegience)

B/W 1940 SILENT WWII. Marines This film opens with children, hands
over hearts, reciting the Pledge of Allegience in a school courtyard.
Interestingly, the phrase "under God" is absent.

Interestingly, most of the "pledge" films seem to first pop-up in the
mid-1940's..there's very little pre-WWII, but quite a few beginning
around 1944. The one I found above I happened on due to a spelling
error on my part.

Hope this helps. What else do you need?

thanks. It apparently is silent, and I don't know how much is shown,
but I am trying to find out. But you have given me other ideas.
Heck, I might end up paying you anyhow for the ideas. I will try to
let you know what I find out. Thanks again.
