tom72 --

Congress was in recess on July 1 for the July 4 holiday, so no action
on anything was taken on that day. In any case, importing
prescription drugs from Canada has illegal since 1987, and legislative
initiatives these days are focused on allowing such imports, not
banning them. Could you add any more detail to just what it is you
are looking for?

Hi, mark-ga,
I have been purchasing prescription drugs from Canada for some time
and I have a retiree insurance policy which allows me to claim 80% of
the cost through Aetna. My last claim was turned down, the reason
given being a new federal act which became law on July 1, 2004 stating
that the import of prescription drugs was now illegal from any foreign
country. I questioned Aetna as to why there was no prior warning sent
to clients telling them that their future claims would not be honored.
The reply was that it was impossible to cover all claimants in
advance. I have appealed the refusal to pay and am waiting a reply
from Aetna.

The Federal Government has recently cracked down on old laws, making
it near impossible now to import drugs from other countries.

Just FYI, importing drugs from Canada is not really a good thing:
importing cheaper drugs from Canada circumvents the patent laws and
the FDA, and pharmaceutical companies will refuse to sell cheaper
drugs to Canada anymore. This makes Canadians pay much higher prices
for their prescriptions, and it will make prescriptions in the U.S.
much more at risk for low quality medicines and even for potential
errors in what the drug is or the proper dosages, because generics are
formulated differently than the brand name drugs. See
