I would like information on the wet toilet paper products:

1. What happened to the products that were launched? p&G Charmin Fresh
Mates, KC RollMates, others? Who had products and when?

2. Why did they fail?

3. Are there any still marketed in the US? In other countries?

Hi brondell,
1.) Kimberly-Clark's Cottonelle Fresh Rollwipes is sold in Half of
the US including the Texas and was announced on January 16, 2001.
Proctor & Gamble's Charmin Fresh Mates was in National distribution in
2002 according to the Charmin site.
(URL: http://www.charmin.com/en_us/flash/faq.swf)
...until some time in July/August 2003

2.) To quote a Proctor and Gamble's spokeswoman:
"while consumers have become more fastidious in the bathroom, they
don't like others knowing about it."

Other than that, I have been unable to find any actual reason for the
failure of these products such as marketing, distribution,
maintenance, or its concept.

In my opinion, I think the same reason the Bidet has not caught in the US
is the same reason these paper products have failed.
Also, I think if more babies were toilet-trained with these wet toilet
paper products, there would be a huge market for this type of product.

3.) There doesn't seem to be any still marketed other than the ones I
mentioned. From my research, the products you listed seem to be
for the US market only. I'll let you know if I find any similar products in
other countries.

Some people just use the "baby wipes" as they appear to be *safe* to flush..

Never heard of such things here in the UK.

If the idea had been any good, it would have been launched here for sure.

I think Japan has a better idea of improving the toilet instead of the
toilet paper. Some toilets are so advanced that they'll wash your
backside with warm water and dry you off with a stream of air, so that
you never need to touch toilet paper at all!

Now all they need to do is integrate toilet and massage chair
technology, and I'll never need to stand up again...

They do do it for kids now, not baby wipes but some sort of thing that
comes in a box like hand wipes do.
