Dear caro123,
René Liénard de Saint-Delis was the elder brother of Henri Liénard de
Saint-Delis, the painter my colleague researcher pafalafa-ga mentioned
in his above request for clarification. Here is a biography of René,
which I translated from a French website:
René Liénard de Saint-Delis was born on 26 November 1876 in Saint-Omer
in the French département Pas de Calais. His father was an officer in
the 5th dragoons regiment stationed there and died from disease in
1881. Widowed early, Mrs. Liénard de Saint-Delis then settled down in
Le Havre with her four children.
In the grammar school of Le Havre, formed a friendship with Othon
Friesz; this friendship lasted a life long. They left the grammar
school together to receive lessons from an excellent master at the
Municipal School of Fine Arts of Le Havre, Charles Lhullier. There,
they met Raymond Lecourt and Raoul Dufy. Subsequently, all four
completed their formation in Paris in an almost synchronous way. From
1900 to 1904, René was in Bouguereau's workshop at the Académie
Jullian.
After returning to Le Havre, René painted primarily solid and soulful
naval paintings, marked by the double criterions of water and light.
He knew how to depict the sea varnished by the stars or the sun, dawns
or midnights with a frugality of means which revealed his concern for
the essence. René also traveled very regularly to Switzerland where
his brother Henri stayed for a long time for recovery. From these
voyages he returned with the paintings of the landscape of the canton
of Waadt, which were both powerful and chromatic.
In 1919, René married Jeanne Fidelin in Étretat and settled down
there. Since that time, the work of the fishermen, the views of the
cliffs and the countryside of Caux were his recurrung themes. With
some exceptions, this period is a bit weak and quite unglamorous; the
painter's sensitivity was like laying fallow. And then, at the end of
his life, René devoted himself to still lifes. There, he sometimes
found back to his grandeur in superb works of elegance and nostalgia,
occasionally at the border to a certain mysticism.
René devoted himself to his art until the end of his life. He passed
away in Étretat on 14 January 1958.

On the home page of the above website on the Saint-Delis brothers,
there is also this interesting information:
For the publication of an important monograph on René and Henri de
Saint-Delis, Professor Gérard Bonnin invites all persons owning works
of art, photographs, written documents and information in general to
contact him. One can understand that the destruction of the painters'
family house during the bombardments of Le Havre in 1944 makes any
information particularly invaluable.
So you might want to contact Professor Bonnin, who is not only an
expert for the life and work of René de Saint-Delis, but also
appreciative for knowledge of any works by the artist:
