We are trying to come up with a new brand name to compete with a
competitor's brand "Viper". We would like something with the same
kind of Wild West, cowboy connotation. Are there any sites that can
help us generate potential brand names/trademarks?
The overlay to this is, we would have to make sure that these new
names do not infringe on existing trademarks in the field of
billiards....
Please hit me with any clarifying questions...

How about "Atlatl"? This is an Aztec word pronounced "at-lat-til". It
is the name of a wooden, handheld device used to throw darts or spears
with deadly accuracy. Using this as a barand name would suggest the
accuracy of yoour product and ease with which an oppnent can be
defeated with it.

Here's a graphic showing how an atlatl was used:

The Aztec word for one who uses an atlatl was ?Nahautl?, meaning spear thrower.

.......

"Wassigan" is another cool word that comes from the Cree/Ojibway
language. It means "lightning".

The word "Tajín" (my favorite suggestion here) means "lightning" in
the Totonac language.

Using these as brand names one might project an image of instant,
lethal power not to mention this would also open to the door for you
to incorporate a number of VERY eye-catching logos and ads for your
product.

.......

I apologize for the abundant typos. Very embarrassing indeed.

Those suggestions might be good if the general public A)knew what they
meant and B) could figure out how to pronounce them. Otherwise you'd
have to spend a lot of time explaining, rather than letting the name
speak for itself. To me, if I just saw those words, they certainly
wouldn't evoke the Wild West, cowboy image the asker was seeking. If
I had to choose a pool cue only on name, I would definitely pick Viper
over Wassigan!

I need to redirect you... we want a brand that doesn't need an
explanation or translation... the ones you came up with don't meet
that standard. Something closer to Viper... like Rattler, Bronco,
Mustang... think Wild West... not pool cue...
Does that help?

How about Laramie, Cheyenne, or Chisholm? There are lots of place
names that have a connection with the old West. However, I'd stay away
from "Deadwood" as a name for a pool cue, for obvious reasons.

This is a fun one to think about. Of course, I have no idea if these
pertain to poolsticks or not, 'cause mine was a "sneaky pete", but
just a few...

Fuego
Caliente
Stallion
Steed
Bobcat
Billy the Cue
Wyatt
Doc
Dusty
Trailblazer
Pioneer
Paint
Pinto
Wildcat
Sidewinder
Saguaro (cactus)

The Sly Stick

The Sly Stik

The Sly Styk (though the spelling of the latter word might confused
   with 'Styx')
