What can i use to instant message on a local area network with no internet connection on a pocket pc (HP 22155) this needs to work over wifi cards only not infra-red or bluetooth. i found a program that works on windows xp called Stick It that does that, avaliable from (http://www.nxicom.com) i need this to be a peer to peer (pocket pc to pocket pc) messaging program. not including AIM, MSN, YAHOO, JABBER, or other internet/server based programs. |

I wonder if this helps... http://www.vliusa.com/prof_personal/pocketgphone.php Probably more than you thought you wanted, and subscription is only $9.95/year (yes, I know...) Well, it does say peer-to-peer, if you know the IP address... "11. Direct connections Connect directly with others by entering their IP address." Considering the functionality of this product, I wouldn't cast it aside without trying it the 60 day trial... Yea that not what i'm looking for cause i cant have multiple, open instant messages to different people. it's more along the lines of telephone convos. can you find anything else along the lines of non-internet, network based messaging on pocket pc? |

I'm not sure you can find such a thing without involving a server ... somehere. Your added request of multiple open IMs puts this in a class that is very different from the original request, and not really available. An ad hoc serverless multiple user IM system is difficult to come by in any platform, let alone pocketPC. Frankly, you're better off with SMS/bluetooth than WIFI, but if you *must*, then consider an IRC client like http://providenet.pda.tucows.com/pocket/preview/287275.html (Gatorchat) and run your own IRC server (you get one free with Exchange, or you can get one free from sourceforge, etc.). If you host-your-own IRC, you don't have to connect to Internet. I just can't figure out a serverless thing unless something like Netmeeting. But that runs a single server (host) and multiple connections to that server, for a star configuration from the host. I really don't think a pocketPC is powerful enough to host and resolve all those connection attempts at once on its own. Take a look at this... http://www.ua.jrra.org/bin/view/Main/WebHome I hope it helps ... I am not a Google Answers Researcher. |

OK, but if it's just you and a friend, try the textchat feature of the pocketgphone link above. :) otherwise sneak a Wireless access point into or near your classroom :) |
