Think of the "signal flow": where does the video signal need to go?
The satellite signal goes only to the TV, not to the DVD player, which
is incapable of recording. Similarly, the DVD signal also need to go
to the TV, since the satellite receiver is incapable of recording.
Therefore, you need a TV with two video inputs: connect DVD --> TV and
satellite --> TV.
