I am trying to identify a piece of music that appears in the trailer
for the movie 'The Prince and Me'

See http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/theprinceandme/

The piece in question begins with a piano intro about one third
through the trailer as Julia Stiles dances around some bar tables. It
lasts about twenty seconds and includes some basic vocals (iii, eee,
ooo!)
Answer
There is no answer at this time.

I can't identify the song, but the voice sounds to me like Stevie Nicks.

I'm afraid this one will be quite a challenge. It appears that clip
may not belong to any of the songs on the soundtrack. Studios will
often use songs from other films or songs that aren't even in a film
simply because it fits better with the trailer (or sometimes when they
can't afford the song they want).

If you want to go an extra step, I would try calling Paramount. Ask
for the department that handles the studio's movie trailers or more
specifically the music licensing for those trailers. Hopefully that'll
get you an answer. the main number for Paramount is 323-956-5000. The
automated options will allow you to speak the department you want or
you can wait for an operator.

I hope this helps!

BTW, here is an Amazon link for the soundtrack, in case you don't have it:

Correction... the list of songs are from the film itself. Many of
these songs do not appear on the soundtrack.

nproctor, pink, jason --

I forwarded this question to a friend of mine at Paramount. Maybe he'll be able
to find out the answer. . . stay tuned.

Update: my friend at Paramount says he's pretty sure the trailer
music is a "pastiche," as rarely is the official soundtrack ever ready
when they're cutting the trailers. He said he would ask the trailer
people "if the information is readily available." Because of the
Labor Day holiday and a lot of people out of the office, he may not
hear back until after next Monday.

cryptica,

Thanks for the update. Much appreciated!

Trailer houses (the advertising agencies that create movie trailers)
use music that is usually unrelated to the soundtrack used in the
film. This can be a combination of popular music, score from other
movies, and custom-composed or pre-composed tracks from libraries of
music specifically created for use in film and television ("production
music").

In the case of The Prince & Me, two pop cues were used ("Never There"
by Cake and "Breathe" by Michelle Branch) as well as three cues from
the production music company Synchronic. The song you're referring to
is entitled "Uplifting Vocal". The two other Synchronic cues in the
trailer are "Uplifting Instrumental" and "In the Rain."

Production music is licensed to studios and ad agencies on a
performance basis and is not sold as albums to the general public.

Wow, Blankpaper -- great answer. I had just sent my Paramount
friend another e-mail asking if he'd heard anything -- I'll tell him
never mind.
As someone in TV production, who's always looking for this kind of
thing -- I'd love to
know if you found the info on some sort of website -- or knew someone who knew or?

Actually, it just so happens that I work for a trailer house. My
company didn't do the Prince & Me trailer, but we did do some
television commercials for it and so Paramount marketing gave us the
trailer music to use.

I tried to find some contact info for the production music company
Synchronic on the web and was unsuccessful. Many companies with
industry-only clientele don't advertise to (or care to be contacted
by) the general public.

Blankpaper, definitely a great answer! Many thanks indeed.

Thanks for the info, Blankpaper. I'm impressed by a company that has
no website -- or if it does, it's a secret one! I work at one of the
cable networks, so am always looking for new leads for music. Alas,
though, our dept. mostly has to use stock, due to budget constraints.
